YEAR 6

Since our last newsletter, Year 6s have been busy bees and completed many tasks.

English

Reading: Students should be reading for 30 minutes a day. I would encourage that once a week, parents listen to the reading and discuss with your child what has happened in the text so far. Discussing with your child about the books they read is so important as it improve their understanding of the text. It also encourages deeper thinking which assists their learning in subjects.

Writing: In our writing sessions, students have been refining their understanding of the structure of Information texts. Many of the students have shared their examples with you in this newsletter. They will also publish them on the website below, an online publishing service.

ICT

In ICT, they have built cubit racers and have begun to code different parts of the racer, to do a variety of functions like illuminating the light strip, with different colors or in a sequence of colors. They were using the IF instruction, to turn the racer around or reverse it when it came to a road block.

In Art, they have continued to work on the exploration of line. They have created crayon melt zendoodle art.

Transition Reminder

An important part of the Transition Program is finding the school that fits the needs of your child. So I am just taking this time to remind you that researching the school by visiting the venue, talking to the staff and taking a tour of the facilities will assist you in making an informed decision that best meets the needs of your child. Even though all secondary schools have all held their Open Day throughout May, they are always willing to meet perspective parents and students.

Please make sure you have contacted the school or checked their websites for the enrolment process. I have listed what I know about the three schools in this area;

Notre Dame: you need to contact the school for the enrolment pack before you visit the school.

McGuire College: contact the school to enquire about the process.

St. Anne’s College requests that you fill in the online application before you visit the school.

Enrolment closures for each of the secondary Schools in Shepparton are as follows;

McGuire College’s enrolment applications closed on May 31st.

Notre Dame’s enrolments closed early June.

St. Anne’s College’s enrolments close June 24th

Please feel free to contact our school if you need any help with this Transition Process.
